UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center will hold three public webinars in April, with “Homebuyer Education” at noon April 2, “Student Loans: Borrowing, Repayment and Forgiveness” at noon April 16 and “After Graduation” at noon April 30.

Homeownership is an exciting prospect, but buying a house is one of the biggest purchases a person will likely make so feelings of apprehension or overwhelm are to be expected. During the “Homebuyer Education” webinar, attendees will follow along with “Homebuyer Ed” as he navigates five important steps to homebuying. This webinar will cover key homebuying terms, the importance of budgeting before starting your homebuying journey, mortgages and other costs and navigating the search and offer process.

The “Student Loans” webinar on April 16 will explore the entire lifecycle of the student loans process from initial borrowing to repayment. This webinar will cover steps to take before borrowing, the financial aid timeline, different types of student loans and loan limits, repayment plans and insights into various loan forgiveness programs. Participants will gain important knowledge to help them feel confident in their student loan decisions.

Finally, it’s important to be financially prepared to make a smooth transition after graduating college. The “After Graduation” webinar will empower soon-to-be graduates to create a budget, negotiate their salary, save and invest for their future and build their financial reputation. Navigating post-secondary education expenses will also be addressed.

A list of webinars open to the public, including the series’ Zoom link, can be found at the program's website.

Self-study modules are available here from “MoneyCounts: A Penn State Financial Literacy Series.”
