UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Dr. Keiko Miwa Ross Student Farm will host its 9th annual Harvest Fest on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. This signature event brings the community together with free sampling of farm-fresh food, crafts, and opportunities to connect with the student farmers.
Free and open to the public, guests can try food samples made with seasonal vegetables from local chefs and caterers, including Taproot Kitchen, the Village at Penn State, State College Area High School, Paul's Provisions, and our very own Penn State Housing and Food Services chefs.
Activities include making sun prints, planting succulents (free for Penn State students and five dollars for all other participants), a petting zoo, opportunities to learn about the educational experiences on the farm and plans for a new multi-purpose facility, and more.
“Last year was my first time experiencing Harvest Fest, and it was so amazing to see how all of these different groups, in and outside of Penn State, came together to promote sustainability,” said Isabella Mikelonis, a sophomore telecommunications major helping to organize this signature event. “There was something for everyone, from free succulents for students, fun stations, and delicious food. I hope to see students and the community come out to celebrate!”
Student Farm Club merchandise purchases, succulent fees and any other payments can be made with cash, check or Venmo. Visitors are strongly encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and take advantage of sustainable transportation to the farm at the intersection of Big Hollow Rd. and Fox Hollow Rd. Free event buses will run continuously from the Berkey Creamery bus pull-off on Curtin Rd. and the Ross Student Farm from 3:45 to 7:15 p.m. SPIN bike docking is available by the main entry gate to the farm and CATA buses H and HU routes are available. Limited parking is available via the Park Mobile app or with a Penn State parking permit.
